Film Review | Lucy
Even the magnetic Scarlett Johansson can't save this half-baked disappointment from French fromage master Luc Besson. After ingesting a bunch of crazy drugs against her will, ScarJo's American abroad, Lucy gradually gains the ability to use the full spectrum of her brain power, somehow giving her supernatural powers.
However, once she has said abilities, any would-be action scenes are neutered by the character's utter imperviousness to harm. Morgan Freeman is along to narrate the proceedings which, for some reason, are littered with stock footage nature montages and goofy CGI mitosis shots as Lucy evolves.
By the end, subplots about a Korean mob boss and a French detective trying to crack the case are all but abandoned as the movie spirals into a heavy-handed exploration of what it is to be human. Yes, it's exactly as lame as it sounds. The two lead actors are the only saving grace, and even this talented pair struggles to keep a clunky plot afloat to its predictable conclusion.
