Film Review | Furious 7

furious7 Vin Diesel is back in the role that he'll be remembered for as Dominic Toretto in the latest, and by far most action-packed Fast and Furious adventure. With the uptick in onscreen mayhem comes a willingness to throw the laws of physics completely out the window, and fully embrace the zany destruction that has come to characterize the series.

This time Diesel and The Rock square off against a fellow seemingly unkillable force in Jason Statham's brutal antagonist, vowing revenge for his brother's death at their hands in the previous installment. The rest of the gang is back as well, and while Tyrese struggles to get laughs throughout the movie, there are a couple of amusing one-liners to accompany the many melees and vehicular stunts.

Most surprisingly, the movie leaves us on an stirring emotional note, paying tribute to late co-star Paul Walker while refusing to shoehorn in any cliched plot device to explain away his loss. While far too long at 137 minutes, and not quite as enjoyable as the last two chapters of the series, Furious 7 acquits itself nicely as a pre-summer popcorn bonanza with an unexpected soul.
